Increasing the knowledge about the current situation and issues in the fashion industry and the lack of sustainability from a social perspective, environmentally friendly and economically will bring some change.

The most important thing in becoming more sustainable is changing attitude. The fast fashion industry has bombarded us through constant marketing, making us feel like we need to buy the latest trendy pieces. This mindset toward our clothing needs to change to successfully find ways to be sustainable in Fashion.

Below are some ways to transition to sustainable Fashion while saving your money and contributing to saving the planet along the way.

Tip #1 - Engage readers right away

Take care of your clothing:

Caring properly for our clothes keeps them looking new and increases their longevity. Always look at the care label before washing and wash them according to the instruction. Avoid washing clothing that does not need to be washed so often, such as sweaters or denim. Avoid hanging knitwear and sweater as the shapes will be distorted; instead, fold them.

Quality over quantity:

Choose sustainable brands that produce high-quality and durable garments that will last you long. If possible, choose clothing made from natural fiber to help avoid polluting the ocean and decomposing quickly.

Buy second-hand and vintage:

The best way to embrace sustainable Fashion is by shopping for pre-loved and second-hand clothes and accessories. Charity shops/ op shops are great as they allow you to find pieces others can’t have their hands on; they also promote reuse, recycling, reducing landfills and slowing down fast Fashion.

Repairing and altering clothes:

Rather than throwing your loved clothing that needs to be fixed, find ways to repair or alter your clothing to give them a new life. There are many ways to fix it, such as painting, embroidering, and making simple cuts and stitches to make it more interesting.

Buy from transparent brands:

If you are buying new clothing, buy from brands that are transparent about their manufacturing process and supply chain. Be aware of greenwashing as many brands are creating pieces appealing to the eco-minded shopper while still underpaying their workers and using unsustainable fabrics in their other lines.
